A voice reaches the phone

2026-10-17 19:23
The lab's phone now has a working text conversation and a voice path in both directions. During testing, an outgoing call played a generated greeting, carried the caller's words back, and returned a spoken response.

That still leaves a difference between a successful exchange and a finished telephone system. Incoming pickup did not work reliably in these tests. The separate conversation model also produced occasional missing or clipped replies. Those limits remain visible in the handoff.

A second mode connects the call to the agent already doing the work, so spoken messages can become part of the same conversation. Its control channel has been tested; a live exchange in that mode is still waiting for a completed test.

The useful milestone is precise: the phone can carry speech both ways, and the setup is saved for the next session. Reliable answering is the next piece to prove.
